For kindergarten graduation in 1980, Kevin Harvick received a go-kart from his parents and began his storied racing career.

In the 10 years that he competed on the go-kart circuit, Harvick earned seven National Championships and two Grand National Championships. During that time, Harvick also learned the value of dedication and discovered the joy of success that would transform to the fierce determination that defines Kevin Harvick.

Harvick left the go-kart circuit to begin competing in the Featherlite Southwest Series, a regional touring division of NASCAR, in 1992. He ran a limited schedule for two seasons while completing high school, running a full schedule in 1995 and earning Rookie of the Year accolades.

Deciding to pursue a career in racing rather than study architecture in college, Harvick progressed to the Winston West Series.

"Racing is something I've wanted to do my whole life," said Harvick. "In 1997, when I was attending Bakersfield Junior College, the time came for me to make a choice about my future: I either had to focus on racing full-time, or decide on a new profession and begin training for it. I chose racing, and I've never looked back."

Two years later, Harvick won five races on his way to the 1998 Winston West Series Championship

A brief stint in the Truck Series introduced Harvick to acclaimed car owner Richard Childress. Childress, having seen potential in Harvick's hard-charging driving style, offered him a ride in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Harvick accepted.

In February of 2000, the blue-and-white ACDelco Monte Carlo pulled out of the garage area at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway with rookie Kevin Harvick at the wheel. A remarkable two-year campaign in the Nationwide Series had begun.

During the 2000 Nationwide Series season, Harvick won three races and finished third in the series point standings on his way to the winning the Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors. On the track, he was known for his aggressive driving that led to a multitude of top-10 finishes, but off the track, his affable attitude and ever-present smile earned him the nickname "Happy."

Harvick began 2001 as the favorite for the Nationwide Series Championship title and completed the year a Sprint Cup Series superstar.

After losing Dale Earnhardt in a wreck on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500, car owner Richard Childress asked Harvick to assume driving duties of the GM Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit. Despite the intense schedule and difficulty of driving full-time in two series, Harvick agreed and began the most incredible year of his life.

For having started on such a terrible note, the 2001 racing season was one of the best of Harvick's career, both personally and professionally.

On February 28, 2001, Harvick married DeLana Linville, whom he calls his "best friend," in a beautiful Las Vegas ceremony. Despite not having time for a honeymoon, Kevin and DeLana's first year of marriage was filled with incredible moments that DeLana called "wedding presents."

Those "wedding presents" included two Sprint Cup Series wins, the first coming in Harvick's third start, and a Nationwide Series Championship, which Harvick earned on the strength of 20 top-five finishes and five wins. Harvick also earned Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors on the Sprint Cup Series circuit, finishing ninth in the season ending point standings.

Harvick made NASCAR history in 2001 by becoming the first driver to run full-time on both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup series, a total of 70 races, in one season, and the first to be named Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year the same season that he earned the Nationwide Series Championship.

In the fall of that same year, Kevin and DeLana ran their first Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI)-entry in the Truck Series. The truck, built in a friend's garage, set the stage for what is now a full-fledged racing operation. In August of 2004, Kevin and DeLana opened a 70,000 square foot facility in Kernersville, N.C. that became the home of KHI. The next year, KHI fielded its first full-time Nationwide Series team, winning the season-opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Since then, the company has grown to a competitive, multi-team organization that fields one successful Nationwide Series car and two impressive Truck Series entries.

In addition to making his mark as an owner, Harvick has continued to make his presence known in the Sprint Cup Series since he started racing in NASCAR's premier racing series eight years ago. Harvick has had many career moments, including his 2003 Brickyard 400 victory, where he became the first driver to win from the pole position. He is currently one of only 19 drivers who have won a race in each of the elite NASCAR Series (Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series).

Harvick experienced one of his most successful season’Äôs in 2006. He earned his second Nationwide Series championship in a runaway title effort that saw him earn nine wins, 23 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes. He was just one race short of tying Sam Ard's record for the most victories in a Nationwide Series season, 10, set in 1983. Additionally, Harvick clinched the title with four races remaining in the season, mathematically eliminating any other competitor from taking over the top spot in points at Lowe's (N.C.) Motor Speedway in late October of 2006.

While he was storming through the Nationwide Series in 2006, Harvick was also having his best Sprint Cup Series run to date. He earned five wins, 15 top-five and 20 top-10 finishes on the way to a fourth-place finish in the season ending Sprint Cup Series point standings, his best finish to date. It was also Harvick's first Chase for the Championship berth.

Harvick kicked off 2007 in spectacular fashion, sweeping both of the season-opening races at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. The Orbitz 300 Nationwide Series race on February 17, 2007 marked his first win at the most famous track in NASCAR and he followed the victory by winning his first Daytona 500 the next day in a heart-stopping photo finish against Mark Martin.

Another first came for Harvick later in the 2007 season when he won the Sprint Cup All-Star Challenge at Lowe's (N.C.) Motor Speedway.  It was his first All-Star victory and second $1-million-dollar-plus payday of the 2007 season.

Harvick went on to finish the 2007 Sprint Cup Series season 10th in points on the strength of one win, four top-five and 15 top-10 finishes.

To add to his Sprint Cup success, the 2007 season was also a marquis year for Harvick in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.  After kicking off the season with his first NNS career win at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, he went on to add five more wins to his Nationwide Series tally, giving him a career total of 32 and putting him second on the all-time win list.  In addition to that accomplishment, Harvick won the USG Durock 300 race at Chicagoland Speedway on July 14, becoming the first driver to win more than one Nationwide Series race at the track.  He followed that win by making NASCAR history on August 4, when he won the inaugural Nationwide Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada.  Finally, his win at Texas Motor Speedway on November 3 landed him in the record books as the driver with the most NNS wins at Texas Motor Speedway with four.

Topping off a successful year on the track as a driver, Harvick and wife DeLana became Championship Owner’Äôs in the Camping World Truck Series as Ron Hornaday and the No. 33 Truck Series team claimed the 2007 title.

Adding to an already impressive rˆ©sumˆ©, the 2008 season also marked another year for the record books. Harvick raced his way to his third consecutive Sprint Cup Chase for the Championship, capping the year off with five top-five and 19 top-10 finishes on his way to tying his career best fourth-place finish in the final Sprint Cup point standings. On the Nationwide front, Harvick made the decision to drive solely for KHI in his 10th year in the series, finishing the season seventh in the Owner’Äôs Point standings and secured one pole, eight top-five and 11 top-10 finishes in only 22 starts. Harvick did make an appearance in Victory Lane in 2008, behind the wheel of the No. 2 KHI Chevrolet Silverado in the Truck Series at Phoenix International Raceway, the only track where Harvick has earned Truck Series wins (three).

Kicking off the 2009 season by winning the first race of the year across the three elite series, Harvick won his first career Budweiser Shootout behind the wheel of the No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series. Off to a great start, Harvick is bound to make 2009 another memorable year.

As he continues to raise the bar both at the wheel of a racecar and from the owner's seat, Harvick still has many more chapters to fill and championships to win, both on and off the track. Where the Kevin Harvick story will end is left to the imagination and only time will tell...
